# Commandiv

2015 – 2018 · The first combined crypto & stock-trading platform for US investors

A case study from John Zettler's operating record (https://johnzettler.com/building.md).

We didn't set out to build in crypto — customer demand brought us there. Commandiv
combined stock trading, crypto trading, and robo-advisory algorithms in one platform,
registered with the SEC as a robo-advisor RIA (and passed its SEC audit). We reached
$660k in AUM across 185 clients, with positive net returns on more than 85% of accounts.

Building Commandiv was my first experience with Coinbase as a developer and customer —
and the beginning of the Ethereum rabbit hole I never climbed back out of.

The product was growing when the economics caught up with us: compliance costs were
high, and our fundraise fell apart once Robinhood announced they were entering crypto.
We wound down in February 2018 and deregistered the RIA cleanly.
